Chi Sigma Iota Membership Information

*Please read the following below before submitting your application.

Membership in Chi Sigma Iota, as specified in the CSI Bylaws, is by chapter invitation to both students and graduates of the chapter's counselor education program who meet the membership eligibility criteria specified in the Society's bylaws.

Students must have completed at least one semester of full-time graduate coursework in a counselor education degree program, have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 system, and be recommended for membership by the chapter, including promise for a capacity to represent the best about professional counseling through appropriate professional behavior, ethical judgment, emotional maturity, and attitudes conducive to working to advocate for wellness and human dignity for all. Faculty and alumni of the program shall have met the overall G.P.A. requirement as graduates of a counselor education program and be recommended to CSI by the chapter. The primary identity of these persons shall be as professional counselors, including evidence of a state or national credential as a professional counselor.

While CSI Headquarters will acknowledge receipt of the application and payment with a welcoming notice, full-fledged membership into the Society takes place at a formal oath-taking initiation ceremony that is arranged by the chapter. Certificates of membership and recognition pins are sent to Chapter Faculty Advisors (CFAs) to be distributed during the formal initiation ceremony.


Students - To be approved for membership within Chi Sigma Iota, you must be invited by a local CSI chapter and approved by the Chapter Faculty Advisor (CFA) of your local CSI chapter (see CSI membership requirements).

Alumni and Faculty - To be approved for membership within Chi Sigma Iota, your application must be endorsed by the Chapter Faculty Advisor (CFA) of the CSI chapter where you completed your terminal counseling degree.

Please enter your name exactly as you want it to appear on your CSI Membership Certificate. Ensure correct spelling, spacing, capitalization, etc. since the information that appears on your CSI Membership Certificate will be what you enter within this membership application.

CSI International dues of $50 must be submitted with the completed membership applications. Applications submitted without payment cannot be processed.

After your membership application is CFA-approved, you may access the members-only areas of the website (including the CSI Store) and all member benefits.

CSI does not share or sell members’ information. Information requested within membership applications is intended to help CSI International identify member eligibility, benefits, initiatives, service opportunities, and activities that are most relevant to specific members (e.g., information requested about current employment setting may be used to connect CSI members to resources that benefit their specific practice setting - as a practitioner, counselor educator, school counselor, etc.). Additionally, CSI uses third parties (e.g., PayPal) for all e-commerce, and CSI does not collect or retain member information (e.g., credit card numbers) for e-commerce.
